The book is Graham T. Allison, Destined for War: Can America and China Escape the Thucydides Trap? (Houghton Mifflin, 2017). Allison was Director of Harvard’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs from 1995 to July 2017. Prior to that he was Assistant Secretary of Defense for Policy and Plans. His new book examines how rising powers (in this case China) often challenge status quo powers (the United States), frequently leading to war.
